Related Product Rules allow you to control which products are shown as Related Products, Up-sells, or Cross-sells in Adobe Commerce.

These rules can also be targeted to specific Customer Segments for personalized merchandising experiences.

Each rule includes a Priority setting to decide which rule applies first when multiple are active (lower number = higher priority).

Access Related Product Rules

  1. Go to Marketing → Promotions → Related Product Rules in the Admin panel.

  2. Click Add Rule in the upper-right corner.

Create a Related Product Rule

Step 1: Create a New Rule

  • In the Rule Information section, provide the basic details for your rule.

    • Rule Name: Enter a descriptive name for easy identification.

    • Status: Choose whether the rule is Active or Inactive.

    • Priority: Determines which rule applies first when multiple are triggered.

    • Rule Type: Choose where you want the rule to apply:

      • Related Products

      • Cross-sell Products

      • Up-sell Products

    • Result Limit: Maximum number of products to be displayed by this rule.

    • Customer Segments:

      • If the rule applies to specific segments, set Customer Segments to Specified and choose the segments.

      • (For this example, the rule is applied to all customer segments.)

Step 2: Products to Match

  • Add a condition to define which products the rule should apply to.

  • You can base conditions based on product attributes:

    • Specific SKUs

    • Categories

    • Attribute Set

    • Color

  • Example:

    • If you set Category is 3, the rule will apply only to that category.

    • If you leave this blank, the rule applies to all products.

Step 3: Products to Display

  • Define which products should be displayed as Related, Up-sell, or Cross-sell when Step 2 conditions are met.

  • You can set display conditions based on product attributes:

    • Specific SKUs

    • Categories

    • If you add SKUs 24-MB01 and 24-MB03, these will display with the products from Step 2.

Step 4: Save & Apply Rule

  • After configuring all sections (Rule Information, Products to Match, and Products to Display), click Save.

  • Run reindexing to apply the rule changes on the frontend.

bin/magento indexer:reindex

Step 5: Verify on Frontend

  • Go to the product page for any product defined in Step 2.

  • Scroll to the Related, Cross-sell, or Up-sell section.

  • Confirm that the products defined in Step 3 appear correctly.

Delete a Related Product Rule

To remove an existing related product rule from Adobe Commerce:

  1. In the Admin sidebar, go to Marketing → Promotions → Related Product Rules.

  2. Locate the rule you want to delete in the list.

  3. Click the Rule Name to open its details page.

  4. In the upper-right corner, click Delete.

  5. When prompted for confirmation, click OK to permanently delete the rule.
