Black Friday falls on November 27, 2026. Cyber Monday follows on November 30. For most merchants, though, the date that actually matters more is the one before it: your code freeze — the point after which development stops and the work shifts to verifying, monitoring, and supporting the store.
This guide covers the seven areas we work through with Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source merchants ahead of peak season, in the order they should happen. Each section links to a deeper post as it publishes.

How we sequence it
| Phase | Timing | Focus |
| Build | Now → mid-October | Development readiness |
| Harden | Mid-October → early November | Testing, scaling, reliability |
| Lock | Early November → Nov 20 | Code freeze and verification |
| Live | Nov 20 → Dec 1 | Monitoring and support |
| Close | Dec 1 → mid-December | Switch off, scale down, review |
Code freeze dates vary by merchant — this is a general guide, not a fixed calendar. Ask your development team or agency for your store’s own freeze date.
The 7 areas
- UX & Customer Experience — Mobile, search and navigation, product page, cart, checkout, error handling, and a full end-to-end journey test.
- Infrastructure & Performance — Scaling, caching, indexers, search, database, cron and queues, monitoring. On Adobe Commerce Cloud, capacity increases go through a support ticket and need advance notice — check current Adobe documentation for lead times. On self-hosted Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source, scaling is arranged directly with your host.
- Security & Reliability — Patches, credentials, third-party billing, SSL/domain/hosting/license expiry, backups, and emergency contacts. These are the items most checklists skip, and the ones most likely to cause a quiet outage rather than a dramatic one.
- Magento / Adobe Commerce Technical Readiness — Integration, payment gateway, and checkout testing, inventory sync, background process checks, and the deployment freeze itself. This is where your code freeze happens — the real deadline the rest of the timeline works backward from.
- Promotions & Black Friday and Cyber Monday Offers — Price rules, pricing verification, start and end dates, landing pages, and a plan to switch everything off afterward. On Adobe Commerce Cloud, Content Staging can schedule promotions to start and end automatically. Self-hosted and Open Source stores rely on date fields and should rehearse the switch manually.
- Black Friday and Cyber Monday Monitoring & Support — Infrastructure, orders, payments, and third-party services, watched hourly through the weekend of Nov 27–30, with a clear escalation path if something goes wrong.
- Post-Sale Review — Failed order review, performance analysis, scaling back down, and a lessons-learned session while the peak is still fresh.
